Q Select an activist from the list of influential progressive people below. Pretend that you are an interviewer trying to understand why they feel compelled to act, who they are trying to help, and what they are hoping to accomplish. • Grace Abbott • Upton Sinclair • Ida Tarbell • Eugene Debs • Florence Kelley • Jane Addams • Robert La Follette To complete your discussion assignment, please do the following: • Come up with a list of at least 3 questions that the interviewer will ask your selected activist and his or her responses. These responses should be at least one paragraph long. The questions and responses should show us that you understand both the broad strokes of the progressive movement and the specifics of the figures you chose. • When you are done, post your questions and responses to the discussion forum. Find a classmate who has “interviewed” another person. Respond to them, noting the following key differences: • Were the two activists “at odds?” • Which one might you consider more extreme? • Then, choose one of the interview questions and answers of your classmate. Write a response as your activist to their answer. Question 1 to Upton Sinclair: Why do you think that the Progressive Era had been required to be developed?

Q Question 2 to Upton Sinclair: What are your thoughts on women’s suffrage during the Progressive Era? Question 3 to Upton Sinclair: What do you think about the ways in which workers had been attempted to be protected in the Progressive Era?

I think that the Progressive Era had to be developed because of the ways in which issues with maintenance of cleanliness and quality in food products had been pointed out by me. The hygiene of all the citizens had been at stake. There had to be resolutions formulated and implemented to ensure that quality of the food products would not disturb the good health conditions of the citizens/consumers. There had to be humanity and loyalty shown towards making food products edible without fear. Therefore, there had to be empathy about the customers.
